So since Halloween has ended I have been anticipating making leaf cookies. Jaclyn might joke that I have cookie cutters in all shapes but really they are mostly Christmas related…I had to buy the Halloween shapes this year. SO I didn’t have a leaf cutter. Of course I started searching for one WAYYY after the leaf season. I went to Harris Teeter, Michaels, & Kroger before I remembered to go to the gourmet kitchen shop, Happy Cook. Leaf Cookie Cutter – CHECK!
I really didn’t care what the cookie tasted like (sad I know) I just wanted to decorate the cookies. Hence the reason this is a whimsy post. Its all in the decorations. I piped the colors with ziploc bags because I’m usually too lazy after decorating to clean piping bags (I know there is a legit baker somewhere cringing at this post). I usually outline the leaf first and let the royal icing crust over a bit (For some reason that sounds nasty but I don’t know of a better way to describe it). Then fill in the middle. This keeps the icing from running over the edges.
